Child Labour Rehabilitation And Child Trafficking
During the year 2006 RCPDS started a community based child focus project based on detailed participatory studies in Virudunagar district among the textile, match and fire industry belt. The results are appaulling that most of the contract children are greatly vulnerable to sexual abuse by the drivers, supervisors and immediate co-workers as girl children are made to work for long hours and in an unsafe situation. However to address this problem effectively, it is important that we build in capacity with in the community to negotiate, security process and knowledge about child rights principles. Currently we are in the process of evolving participatory scales and local committees in the area.
We do recognize that there is a long way before we could claim that we have halted the child trafficking processes. This is just the beginning.
